isabel |
|
| isabel is a
paediatric clinical decision support tool used by
medical professionals in hospitals and GP surgeries
throughout the UK. The main features include a
diagnostic aid which, when given a set of clinical
features, will return a reasonable and relevant
differential diagnosis. Other features are an extensive
range of expert treatment guidelines for acute and life
threatening conditions, and an image library of x-rays,
CT scans and slides. All the features are linked so that
one enhances the other. At present isabel concentrates
only on paediatric conditions, but will later be
expanded to include adult illnesses. The site is owned
by The Isabel Medical Charity, a UK- registered charity
which includes a paediatric intensive care consultant at
St Mary's Hospital, and representatives from the General
Medical Council and the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and
the London NHS Modernisation Board. Free registration is
required to access these facilities. |

Medical algorithms
project |
|
| The Medical
Algorithms Project consists of a collection of over 3500
algorithms (collected from the biomedical literature,
including research journals and textbooks) spanning
major medical domains. This resource is authored by John
R. Svirbely, M.D., & M.G.Sriram, Ph.D. and is
intended for the educational and personal use of health
care students and professionals. The algorithms are
organised into 44 chapters, covering most major
specialities. Each chapter has been compressed into a
zip file consisting of an MS Excel workbook, containing
the algorithms of the chapter, and an MS Word document
with descriptions and references for the algorithms. MS
Excel is required for viewing the spreadsheets. A
spanish mirror site is also available. |

Mentor web
site |
|
| This site is
produced by Egton Medical Information Systems (EMIS) and
Oxford University Press (OUP), which aims to provide
complementary information about their decision support
software applications - Oxford Clinical Mentor (OCM) and
Oxford PILS. Oxford Clinical Mentor is an electronic
medical knowledge support system, containing details of
more than 2000 diseases and general medical topics. This
information is cross referenced with 26,000 commonly
used terms and synonyms, and aims to provide health
professionals with immediate, accurate medical
information. Updates can be added electronically. This
service is available for a fee. Oxford PILS are patient
information leaflets online, written by doctors and peer
reviewed. These are intended for use in a GPs
consultation with the patient. There is also a list of
Self-Help Groups available which are freely searchable
from this site, with the main PILS database available
for a fee. |
