Isabel Healthcare's mission is to improve the speed and appropriateness of patient care across the world by providing clinicians with practical diagnosis decision support solutions.

Isabel Healthcare is a fast growing, venture capital backed company operating on a global basis. The company is best known for Isabel, a web-based, Diagnosis Checklist System designed to assist clinicians that may have diagnostic doubt or want reassurance on a particular diagnosis. Isabel provides a practical and dynamic diagnosis checklist within the normal workflow either as a standalone tool or fully integrated with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Isabel enhances the diagnostic determination process by complimenting the expertise of the clinician, minimizing risk at the most important decision point in the care process.

The evidence shows that the most effective way for clinicians to improve the quality and speed of diagnosis is for them to work up a comprehensive hypothesis or list of likely diagnoses for their patient. The Isabel tool enables them to do this within their work flow or even during the patient consultation.

Studies have proven that clinicians who 'Isabel' their patients at an early stage are able to substantially reduce clinical risk by ensuring that important possible diagnoses have not been missed.

Jason and Charlotte Maude co-founded Isabel Healthcare in July 1999 after their then 3 year old daughter Isabel was nearly fatally misdiagnosed by her local hospital. Isabel spent two months in hospital, including a month in PICU after experiencing multiple organ failure and cardiac arrest.

Isabel’s extensive suffering could have been avoided if the local emergency department and family physicians, instead of assuming her symptoms were typical of the chicken pox from which she was also suffering, had stopped to ask 'what else could this be?' Isabel was later diagnosed to be suffering from well-described complications of chicken pox: Toxic Shock Syndrome and Necrotising Fasciitis.

Rather than suing the hospital for the error Isabel Healthcare was created, in honor of Isabel Maude and all patients whose lives have been impacted by missed or delayed diagnosis, to help clinicians around the world do the best job for their patients.
