Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group selects Isabel Healthcare to help improve diagnosis and referral support to its 325,000 patients.
York, 25 September, 2012– Isabel Healthcare today announced that the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (Vale of York CCG) has selected Isabel, a world leader in diagnosis and referral decision support systems, to help its 200 plus GPs provide the best possible care for its 325,000 patients.
One of the key challenges facing the newly formed CCGs is how to improve the appropriateness of referrals to specialists in secondary care, thereby avoiding unnecessary use of acute care resources.
A study in 2010 revealed that Isabel helped reduce unnecessary GP referrals by as much as 29%. The study also showed that 36% of GPs made more appropriate referrals after using Isabel.
“Isabel is a powerful tool that will provide our GPs with the knowledge and support they need to determine difficult diagnoses faster and refer patients to the most appropriate specialists within our local hospital trusts.” Said Dr David Hayward, board member of the Vale of York CCG.
Jason Maude, Founder of Isabel Healthcare commented: “We are very proud to support the 35 practices in Vale of York CCG and congratulate them in being one of the first pioneers in the UK providing an efficient and cost effective service for their patients. From my personal experience, I know how important timely diagnosis and referral is for patient care and I am confident that using Isabel will help them to improve the quality of care for many patients. ”.
